The International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) today announced preliminary finding from their 2016 Global Mutual Market Share research. These findings confirmed the growing social impact of mutual and cooperative insurance in 2016.

Cooperative and mutual insurers have consistently increased their policyholder numbers since 2012.

During its Biennial Conference held in London this week, ICMIF told the 350 delegates from 37 countries that 990m policyholders now have mutual/cooperative insurance products, an increase of 2m since the previous year and an overall increase of 110m since 2012.

This week, the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) welcomed more than 360 delegates from 37 countries to attend the 2017 Biennial Conference: Redesigning Insurance at the Hilton London Bankside Hotel, UK (17-20 October).

Of those delegates, 55 are young leaders, deemed by their organisation to be the mutual and cooperative insurance leaders of the future. This is the first time that ICMIF has organised a Young Leader Programme (for delegates generally aged between 18 and 35) with a special programme of activities focused on developing this next generation of mutual insurance talent.

The UK mutual insurance sector continued to outperform the rest of the UK insurance market in 2016, according to the latest financial research from the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF).

The Market InSights: UK 2016 report will be officially launched next week at ICMIF’s Biennial Conference in London, attended by more than 350 delegates from 147 organisations and 37 countries.

The report shows that the UK mutual sector reported a post-crisis record level of insurance premiums of GBP 19.6 billion in 2016, representing an increase of almost 10% from the previous year (2015: GBP 17.8 billion)....

More than 50 young leaders from 27 mutual and cooperative insurers in 14 countries have registered to attend the new Young Leaders Programme at the upcoming ICMIF Biennial Conference in London (17-20 October). Mr. Fumio Yanai has this week been confirmed as the new Chair of ICMIF’s regional association, the Asia & Oceania Association (AOA).

Mr. Fumio Yanai has been President of ICMIF member Zenkyoren, Japan, since July 2017. Zenkyoren (National Mutual Insurance Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives) has a business scale of JPY57.7 trillion (USD 514.8 billion) in total assets and JPY 5.9 trillion (USD 53.1 billion) in premium and other insurance income.
